The Asian American / Asian Research Institute is the recipient of a $40,000 grant from the CUNY Black, Race and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI) to support our work. We are honored to be among 126 awardees, selected out of a pool of over 500 proposals, to further BRESI’s mission to reimagine, develop, and expand Black, race, and ethnic studies across the university.
Over the next year, BRESI funding will support AAARI’s work to develop and institutionalize Asian American/Asian Studies (AA/AS) infrastructure at CUNY, as well to foster Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community-building and leadership among CUNY faculty, staff, and students.
We aim to:
- Cultivate the formation of Asian American Faculty, Staff, and Student Associations (AAFSSAs) across CUNY campuses to support AAPI communities at the university.
- Develop and disseminate an Asian American/Asian Studies repository of courses, faculty profiles, and other resources to support campus-based efforts to connect and build their AA/AS offerings.
- Offer an Asian American Studies faculty development seminar series to support CUNY faculty members to integrate AAS curricular materials in their courses.
- Institutionalize an AAPI Leadership Pipeline to expand diverse leadership in higher education, through cultivating infrastructure for mentorship, strategies for best practices, and other activities.
