Celebrate the publication of Aleah N. Ranjitsingh’s edited volume The Asian Caribbean in the Caribbean Diaspora: Essays on Migration, Identity, and Literary and Cultural Representations. The volume expands notions of the Caribbean diaspora to account for the Asian as part of the Caribbean and Caribbean diaspora.

Prof. Prithi Kanakamedala will present on their project examining the life of George DeGrasse and his family, who lived on land in New York City donated by Aaron Burr in the early nineteenth century.

Prof. Yuchen Chen will present on their project examining Chinese immigrants and real estate entrepreneurs in West Queens, exploring their placemaking practices in the emerging “new Chinatown.”

Charlotte Brooks’s gripping tale follows the Moy family’s back and forth across the Pacific and through two world wars, China’s Nationalist and Communist revolutions, and the Cold War—events that the siblings and their spouses helped shape.

The CUNY AAFF helps to promote the artistic visual talents and stimulate communication among CUNY students who are separated by the different campuses, and serve as a central location to display their creative works. Past participants have also had their films screened at the Asian American International Film Festival.
