People of the Brush, People of the Book
May 7 at 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
May is both Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month. To mark this occasion, Queens College is hosting a special program exploring calligraphic practices in the Chinese and Jewish traditions.
Join Chinese calligrapher Wei Tang and Jewish sofer Rabbi Michael Gordan for a dynamic introduction to two ancient scribal arts. You’ll learn about the history, tools, and meaning behind each tradition—and then try them yourself in a hands-on workshop. Work with brush and quill to practice the foundational strokes and forms that shape Chinese characters and Hebrew script.
