Around 70 people gathered to celebrate the life of author and activist Dr. Betty Lee Sung at an invite-only funeral on Saturday in Rocklin, MD. Dr. Sung passed away in January at the age of 98.
U.S.-born, she lived for a time in China and then fled it as Japan invaded. She later broke academic ground in New York in the study of the Asian American diaspora.
Dr. Catherine Ma is the recipient of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) 2022 Two-Year College Teaching and Mentoring Excellence Award. The Asian American / Asian Research Institute is delighted to receive a $40,000 grant from the CUNY Black, Race and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI) to support our work. Over the next year, BRESI funding will support AAARI’s work to develop and institutionalize Asian American/Asian Studies (AA/AS) infrastructure at CUNY, as well to foster Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community-building and leadership among CUNY faculty, staff, and students.
