AAARI Thanks Dr. Soniya Munshi for Her Service as Interim Executive Director

The Asian American / Asian Research Institute thanks Dr. Soniya Munshi for her service as interim executive director of the Institute during the 2022-2023 academic year. We wish her much success in her next role as the director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Leadership (CETLL) at Queens College/CUNY. Under Dr. Munshi’s tenure, AAARI received a CUNY Black, Race and Ethnic Studies (BRESI) grant to conduct a faculty development seminar, develop an AAPI leadership pipeline initiative, foster Asian American Faculty and Staff Associations, host a Brown Bag series on new faculty research, and develop an AAARI Reads book club utilizing Rajiv Mohabir’s Anti-man: a Hybrid Memoir, among other programs and activities. She will continue to be a part of the editorial board for CUNY FORUM: Asian American / Asian Studies, published by AAARI.

As director of CETLL, Dr. Munshi will set the vision for the nexus of teaching and learning at Queens College, developing a strategic vision for the center that will position it as a living resource for QC to promote excellent, innovative, and accessible teaching and learning. This will encompass a robust core programming of professional development in the arena of pedagogy in multiple modalities, specialized training, and workshops in areas of interest or concern (e.g., supporting effective teaching in a post-pandemic world), ensuring that all faculty have conversancy and confidence in ensuring an inclusive learning environment, and providing programming for faculty leadership development.
