This event is for everyone who wants to learn more about the NY DREAM Act, its potential impact on ALL New Yorkers, including undocumented students, its costs/benefits, and the campaign to get it passed this year.
This FREE event for the community is open to nonprofit organizations, community leaders, concerned citizens, or anyone looking to get their news in the news. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of public relations and how to write an effective press release. They will also learn how to pitch news stories, how editors select news, and how to do a television interview.
The reception will introduce faculty and staff to the Asian American / Asian Research Institute; our mission as a university-wide scholarly research and resource center that focuses on policies and issues that affect Asians and Asian Americans; and available professional development programs and research award opportunities.
Are you a high school or college student who wants to be a writer? Or just someone who’s ever wanted to grab the mic? Come join two incredible artists as they show you the ropes of performance and spoken word poetry. YaliniDream artfully weaves her spoken word with music and dance, while Kilusan Bautista mixes hip hop and theater using his poetry and martial arts skills. They will be your guides as you find the artist in yourself, raise your voice, and make your words shine.
This event introduces the *Locating the Sacred* festival, a citywide initiative by the Asian American Arts Alliance that brings artists and community spaces together to explore the meaning of the sacred through creative collaboration and cultural exchange.
This event celebrates the 10th Annual Gala of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute, honoring outstanding leadership, scholarship, community service, and student achievement through awards, cultural performances, and shared dining. It brings together community leaders, scholars, and supporters to recognize contributions to Asian American research and public service.
