The Lotus Project, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is a collaboration between the Public Health Institute (PHI) and Richmond Multi-Services (RAMS) that promotes trauma-informed care and prevention across diverse communities. Over the past four years, the project has partnered with local organizations, researchers, and policymakers to support Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) populations nationwide. Through six regional workshops and quarterly webinars, the program has focused on issues such as intergenerational trauma and culturally competent mental health services, building a strong network of professionals and community members committed to improving mental health care accessibility and responsiveness.
This New York–based workshop focuses on addressing trauma and mental health challenges among Asian American and Asian immigrant children and families, who face barriers such as stigma, underreporting, and a lack of culturally responsive care. Bringing together service providers, researchers, policymakers, and community advocates, the event aims to identify current challenges, share effective community-based approaches, and strengthen collaboration across mental health and public health systems. Participants will also be introduced to resources from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) and SAMHSA to further support culturally informed, trauma-responsive care in the greater New York metropolitan area.
