We invite students, scholars, and/or practitioners, within and outside of CUNY, to share their innovative research and creative works, pedagogical projects, programmatic efforts, models for organizing and activism, and other activities at CUNY that address critical issues in Asian American studies and/or communities.
This talk brings together scholars, activists, and students to explore the resurgence of East Coast Asian American studies, discussing its impact on academic discourse, social movements, and community engagement. It highlights the interdisciplinary nature of these studies and their role in reshaping narratives around identity, history, and activism.
The symposium will be of particular interest to health care professionals, health educators, social service providers, students, advocates and individuals who live or work in the community.
Women’s Health Symposium: Rising to the Challenges of Being a Woman is designed to help community healthcare providers learn more about issues affecting Asian American women living in New York City. Topics will include suicide; cultural and communication differences within generations and youth discrimination. There will also be lively discussions focusing on pregnancy when diabetes, hepatitis B or HIV/AIDS is involved; health issues such as menopause, osteoporosis and lupus as well as a panel on what Asians may expect from President Obama’s health care reform plan.
