The Asian American / Asian Research Institute’s 2025 symposium, co-organized with NYU Steinhardt, will explore the intersections of identity, culture, history, and systemic factors in shaping mental health experiences within Asian and Asian American communities.
For this symposium, AAARI has invited students, scholars, community organizers, and/or practitioners to share their innovative research and creative works, pedagogical projects, programmatic efforts, and other activities that address the broad scope of “AAPI Identities.”

This presentation, based on 2023 ethnographic work as a Fullbright Scholar in Spain, focuses on the community-based organization, Valiente Bangla/Brave Bangla, based in Madrid, formed after a successful mobilization to stop the deportation of 34 Bangladeshi nationals in Cueta.
