Screening of the documentary “Voices Against Anti-Asian Hate,” hosted by Philippine Consulate General, followed by panel discussion and reception.
Co-executive and associate editors of “Endless Tide” will discuss the failings of the current legal framework and raise a call to action by elected officials, law enforcement, and community organizations to keep the AAPI community safe in America.
Kaitlyn Chan, a sophomore at Brooklyn College double-majoring in biology and psychology, interviewed AAPI activists and supporters about the actions that they were taking to combat the recent rise in anti-Asian hate; their experiences with discrimination, racism, and prejudice in school and the workplace; and their thoughts on the lack of Asian American representation in politics and media.
Economic and structural inequality, racial scapegoating, and anti-Asian xenophobia all played a role in violence against Asian Americans, then, and continue unabated to today in 2021. Against the backdrop of the continuing global Covid-19 crisis and anti-Asian violence and hate in the United States, we present to you the reader some signals of hope and reclamation on the local and national level: Asian Americans recognizing and reclaiming their place in the larger civil society despite immense institutional and ideological barriers.
Since the start of COVID-19, there has been a rise in hate incidents against Asians and Asian Americans on a national scale. Join our distinguished guests and experts for a discussion of the issues and how we can provide better allyship to local AAPI communities.
The United Parent-Teacher Council (UPTC), and Asian American / Asian Research Institute of the City University of New York, invite you to an online forum on Stopping Anti-Asian Hate.
