Dear Colleague,
On December 26th, 2004, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake unleashed devastating tsunamis on coastal areas throughout South Asia, and East Africa, leaving millions homeless. In the hardest hit nations of Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Indonesia and Thailand, many areas remain inaccessible to both search and rescue teams and relief supply distributions. Many officials fear the death toll could reach 200,000 in coming weeks.
All of us at the Asian American / Asian Research Institute (AAARI) have found it difficult to go about our daily lives as usual, amidst the harrowing tragedy being experienced by tsunami victims on the other side of the globe. To lend our hand to the unfortunate ones, we are initiating a collection drive, which will be coordinated by Mr. Harendra Sirisena at New York City College of Technology, CUNY. Mr. Sirisena is a native of Sri Lanka, and a life member of the Asian American Higher Education Council (AAHEC). All contributions collected by AAARI will be donated to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Checks should be made payable to: UNICEF
And mail to: Asian American / Asian Research Institute
