Are you a student passionate about history and ready to make a real impact? The Localized History Project, part of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute – CUNY, is seeking Part-Time Research Assistants to support the creation of New York City’s first-ever AAPI History Curriculum! You’ll be a key player, assisting our Director and Assistant Directors with daily administrative tasks and crucial research goals throughout the 2025-2026 academic year.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Team Collaboration: Help plan and attend weekly youth research team meetings (typically Sunday afternoons for two hours).
- Data Support: Provide valuable assistance with survey creation and data analysis for our youth researchers.
- Publishing Impact: Contribute to the co-writing of journal articles, research publications, and findings reports that share our discoveries.
Required Qualifications:
- Academic Pursuit: You’re currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in History, Asian American Studies, Sociology, or a related field.
- Research Experience: You have experience with research, data collection, data analysis, and writing for research.
- Passion for Localized History: You’re committed to the idea of localized history, focusing on narratives drawn from local AANHPI populations that are often overshadowed or underrepresented, even within broader AANHPI movements.
- Advocate for Solidarity: You believe in histories of solidarity, community, and collectivity, uplifting intersections of communities and drawing connections to other BIPOC communities within the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with AANHPI community members, including youth ages 16-22, teachers, and community-based organizations.
- Prior experience in qualitative research or managing long-term projects.
Working Conditions:
This is a part-time independent contractor hybrid position, with opportunities to work from our Midtown Manhattan offices.
- Compensation: You’ll earn $20/hour, for approximately 15 hours per week, for a total of 30 weeks. Please note that this is a contractor role and does not include benefits.
- Contract Duration: The anticipated contract period is from September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, with potential for extension.
- Engagement: Some travel will be involved for conferences, events, and our exciting Storytelling Retreat from September 26-28, 2025.
