The Localized History Project, part of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute – CUNY, is seeking a Part-Time Digital Archivist to significantly expand our digital presence and build an interactive platform for NYC’s first-ever AAPI History Curriculum. This is a unique opportunity to blend your technical skills with a passion for historical preservation and community engagement.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Digital Archive Management: Oversee the construction and ongoing upkeep of our digital archive, currently hosted on Omeka.
- Social Media Expansion: Drive the growth of our social media presence, specifically for @localizedhistory on Instagram.
- Content Creation: Design engaging graphics and other visual content using Canva.
- Presentation Support: Provide support with creating conference presentation templates.
Required Qualifications:
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in HTML and CSS, and knowledge of ArcGIS or other mapping software.
- Work Ethic: A collaborative attitude and proven experience working in fast-paced environments.
- Commitment to Localized History: A dedication to the concept of localized history, ensuring narratives are drawn from local AANHPI populations often overshadowed or underrepresented, even within broader AANHPI movements.
- Commitment to Solidarity: A commitment to histories of solidarity, community, and collectivity, that uplift intersections of communities and draw connections to other BIPOC communities within the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the Omeka platform.
- Background or knowledge in historical archiving.
- A strong appreciation for localized history.
- Knowledge of AAPI history.
Working Conditions:
This is a part-time independent contractor hybrid position with offices located in Midtown Manhattan.
- Compensation: The pay rate is $30 per hour, for approximately 15 hours per week, without benefits.
- Contract Period: The initial contract is expected to run from September 1st to June 30th, with the possibility of extensions for additional year(s).
