Job Op – ASL 101 Online Instructor, Fall 2023 (John Jay College of Criminal Justice)

John Jay College of Criminal Justice is seeking a qualified instructor to teach an introductory level American Sign Language (ASL) course online. The ASL 101 course will meet twice a week via Zoom and using Blackboard, with the goal of helping students develop basic ASL skills, including expressive and receptive abilities, as well as cultural awareness.

Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver engaging and effective online lessons for ASL 101 students.
• Create course materials and assignments that align with the course objectives.
• Provide regular feedback and guidance to students to help them improve their ASL skills.
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects diversity and promotes cultural awareness.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and grades.

Requirements:
• A bachelor’s degree in ASL, Deaf Studies, Education, or a related field.
• Experience teaching ASL or a related subject, preferably in an online setting.
• Native or near-native proficiency in ASL.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with students in a virtual environment.
• Familiarity with Zoom and Blackboard or similar online learning platforms.

This is a part-time position, and the instructor will be paid on an hourly basis. The position is open until filled, and we are looking for someone who can start in the Fall 2023 semester.
