A CUNY-wide workshop on multicultural awareness is organized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Development and Enrollment Management, with co-sponsorship from the Asian American / Asian Research Institute, CUNY.  Planning Committee Members include Prof. Irene Chung, Dean Harry Franklin, Vice Chancellor Otis Hill, Prof. Sung Ha Suh, and Dr. Thomas Tam.

Students will discuss how they can help to enhance campus inter-group relations; faculty members will discuss teaching methods that can enrich a multicultural university community.  The keynote speaker of the workshop will be Dr. Derald Wing Sue, Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University.  Dr. Sue has done extensive multicultural research and writing in psychology and education.  He has authored numerous books and publications and has presented at conferences throughout the United States, in Asia, New Zealand and Europe.  He has been called “the most influential multicultural scholar in the United States.”

This stimulating, informative, and free workshop is open to the public.  It is an excellent opportunity for professionals to discuss theories and practices that have significant impact on student development in an urban setting.
