The UCLA Asian American Studies Center and the Stop AAPI Hate coalition have received $1.4 million in funding from California to support community programs and ongoing research that address the impact of COVID-19 on Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, including new research and analysis into hate incidents.

Queens Congresswoman Grace Meng announced the introduction of legislation that would mandate federal government agencies to translate all written COVID-19-related resources and materials into multiple languages.

“Every community suffered. But there’s been a particular pain a particular horrible challenge faced by the Asian American community because on top of all the suffering from the Coronavirus itself on top of losing loved ones losing businesses, people have had to confront horrible discrimination and hatred,” the mayor said.

Managers need to show empathy and create an environment where their direct reports feel safe to express their feelings, Kailei Carr, CEO of The Asbury Group, a leadership DEI consultancy, told Insider. “Sincerely asking how Asian employees are doing and if there is anything they need in one-on-one sessions is a good start,” Carr said.

The National Council on Problem Gambling estimated in 2015 that about 5 million Americans are addicted to gambling, but that only about 8 percent will seek treatment. That includes Asian Americans.
