Despite their long history in the United States, the visibility and importance of Filipino American history—as well as their ongoing contributions to the country—has often paled in comparison to other Asian American ethnic groups.
The Assistant Professor in Southeast Asian, Transnational, and Southeast Asian American Literatures, Medias, and Cultures will be an active researcher as well as provide service and teach undergraduate and graduate courses for the Department of English and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies.
This University-wide initiative assists full-time untenured CUNY faculty (assistant professors) in the design and execution of writing projects essential to progress toward tenure.
Over a 60-year career, he illustrated some 100 books of fairy tales, poetry and memoirs, and won a Caldecott Medal and two Caldecott Honors.
“I think the growing hold of Christian nationalist views, particularly among political leadership, has probably put off a lot of folks that don’t hold political positions that align with that view,” one religion professor said.
