Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., New York State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, and New York State Assemblymember Grace Lee today announced the introduction of new state legislation (S7737), the Hate Crimes Modernization Act. The new legislation increases the list of hate crime eligible charges from 66 to 97, which would enhance charges and certain sentences.
Diwali, also known as the “Festival of Lights,” will be celebrated this year on Sunday, November 12th, though tons of events will be taking place around NYC throughout the month.
WHIAANHPI offers student volunteer internship opportunities year-round (spring, summer, and fall). The Initiative prioritizes full-time, in-person applicants (32-40 hours a week), though virtual and part-time applicants who can commit to at least 25 hours a week will also be considered. Internships are based in Washington, DC, with the option to work hybrid or remotely.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations said it received 774 reports of bias incidents and requests for help from Muslims across the U.S. from Oct. 7 to Oct. 24, a 182% jump from the average 16-day period in 2022.
