Congresswoman Mink, the first Asian American to serve in Congress, will be honored as a part of the U.S. Mint’s American Women Quarters Program. From 2022 through 2025, the program will release one new quarter a year featuring different women. This year, the Mint selected the third-generation Japanese American.
For years, the shares of Black, Asian and Latino citizens age 18 or older signed up to cast ballots have trailed behind that of white adult citizens, according to the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey.

As states across the United States begin to ban DEI programs in their colleges and universities, we asked the BRES Fellows to reflect on why a Ph.D. Program in Black, Race and Ethnic Studies is important to our society. We also asked for them to share how their scholarship is currently contributing to it.
