The stereotype, dubbed “the model minority myth,” has been debunked again and again, but it persists in ideological claims that Asian Americans demonstrate racial discrimination that has been eliminated and hard work is all it takes to do well.

In an unexpected side effect of the coronavirus crisis, Asian Americans are becoming the victims of discrimination. One Asian advocacy group said they’ve received more than 1,500 reports of COVID-related hate incidents since mid-January. NBC investigative and consumer correspondent Vicky Nguyen reports for TODAY.
