As Asian Americans grow in population, so has the number of those buying homes. Yet their home ownership rates, along with other communities of color, still significantly lag white households — 57% in the case of Asian American households in 2018, compared with 72% for their white cohort.

The bills, HB 281 and SB 490, were intended to better represent understanding of Asian American & Pacific Islanders in statewide lesson plans in American history. They also reflect increasing efforts by the Legislature to mandate – or prohibit – specific subjects teachers must include or avoid in classrooms.
The historic group also includes the first Muslim American, the first South Asian Americans and the first Korean Americans to serve on the governing body.
Ms. Hanif, who is Bangladeshi American, was the first Muslim woman elected to the Council in its history, despite the fact that the city is home to an estimated 769,000 Muslims.
Boston voters not only elected an Asian American as its mayor for the first time, but also elected a woman by choosing Michelle Wu.
