Indian immigrant Rose Mary Biju is CCNY Class of 2022 Valedictorian; Egyptian-born Ali Khalil is Salutatorian

Both Biju and Khalil are immigrant members of a CCNY student body ranked among the most diverse in the nation by the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education. The Valedictorian and her Indian family emigrated to the U.S. when she was eight, while the Salutatorian arrived in New York from Egypt in 2016, barely speaking English.

Hochul announces $16 million in funding against hate crimes

The grants are specifically intended to support “buildings owned or operated by nonprofit organizations at risk of hate crimes or attacks because of their ideology, beliefs, or missions,” according to Hochul’s office.

CUNY Graduate Student and Two Alumni are Recipients of World-Class Soros Fellowships for New Americans

The prestigious fellowship offers support to immigrants and children of immigrants who are pursuing full-time graduate degrees. The CUNY-connected fellows are studying music, law and science. Their interests include the culture of classical music, disability advocacy and the clinical diagnosis of cancer.
