On Oct. 21, CEC 26 — which covers the neighborhoods of Bayside, Flushing, Little Neck, Douglaston, Floral Park, Bellerose, Glen Oaks, Queens Village and Jamaica — voted to make mandatory anti-Asian racism measures for schools.

As Asian Americans grow in population, so has the number of those buying homes. Yet their home ownership rates, along with other communities of color, still significantly lag white households — 57% in the case of Asian American households in 2018, compared with 72% for their white cohort.

The bills, HB 281 and SB 490, were intended to better represent understanding of Asian American & Pacific Islanders in statewide lesson plans in American history.
