This event celebrates the 10th Annual Gala of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute, honoring outstanding leadership, scholarship, community service, and student achievement through awards, cultural performances, and shared dining. It brings together community leaders, scholars, and supporters to recognize contributions to Asian American research and public service.
The event will focus on stories from the community, discussions with anti-bullying experts, and information about federal programs and services focused on stopping bullying. The Summit is geared for parents, teachers and students.
The event was co-hosted by Aziz Amad, Chair of US Bangladesh Partners, a CUNY alumnus and recipient of AAARI’s First CUNY Distinguished Asian American Alumni Award. Mr. Ahmad spoke about business opportunities, investment incentives in Bangladesh, and introduced several US companies who are currently entering the Bangladesh market.
Presentations about Chinese New Yorkers’ lives and reflections on 9/11, co-sponsored by the Confucius Institute at Pace University and the Asian American / Asian Research Institute.
Join AAARI for a special reception for Chee Wang Ng’s 9/11 memorial installation, on display at the Office of the Manhattan Borough President, and two other locations.
Paul Ong is Professor of Urban Planning, Social Welfare and Asian American Studies at the UCLA School of Public Affairs. In Fall 2010 and Fall 2011, Prof. Ong served as the City University of New York’s Thomas Tam Visiting Professor at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Russell C. Leong is the founding editor of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute’s CUNY FORUM publication, and previously served as the CUNY Thomas Tam Visiting Professor at Hunter College/CUNY.
