Join us for a casual forum where you can learn more about the Hunter Asian American Studies Program (AASP). Peter Kwong, co-founder of the program in 1993, will provide a brief history of the AASP at Hunter, and you’ll be able to meet other AASP faculty and students to talk about our classes, minoring, P&D requirements, and how coursework in Asian American Studies will enhance your degree and experience here at Hunter.
This event will showcase a dynamic array of local Asian American performers in Chinatown, featuring artists from diverse genres including spoken word, music, and DJ performances. With hosts Kelly Tsai and Taiyo, and a special appearance by DJ Rekha, the event highlights a vibrant mix of talent from groups like Abstract Vision, Falu, Slanty Eyed Mama, and more.
This event returns for its Spring 2007 season, offering three Thursdays of free entertainment and films celebrating the Asian-American/Pacific Islander cultural diaspora in the outdoor setting of Columbus Park. Highlights include interactive Tai Chi, performances by Hawaiian slack key guitarists and Cantonese opera, and films like Whale Rider, Curse of the Golden Flower, and Kung Fu Hustle, with special $5.50 boxed dinners from local restaurants.
This event showcases a vibrant celebration of the Year of the Pig, featuring a diverse lineup of performances including traditional dances from China, Korea, Mongolia, and Xinjiang, as well as unique dances with silk ribbons and handkerchiefs. Presented by the Kingsborough Community College Asian Society, the event also includes a lively lion dance to kick off the festivities.
This talk explored the path to becoming a Bodhi-Sattva, with Master Jen-Chun sharing insights from his decades-long practice and teachings on a pure, practice-focused approach to Buddhism in the United States.
