This talk is part of a new graduate-level course, Critical Asian American Issues and Actionable Solutions, taught by AAARI’s first CUNY Thomas Tam Visiting Professor, Dr. Paul Ong from UCLA, at the CUNY Graduate Center. For this talk, Corky Lee will exhibit twenty-four of his photographs and discuss their cultural and historical significance to New York City’s Asian American community.

The Town Hall is the Alliance’s regular monthly gathering of artists and arts workers. Taking place the first Tuesday of every month, from 10am to 12pm, the Town Hall is a lively forum for people to announce news, learn about opportunities, and meet each other. Participants are invited to bring flyers and postcards, and to contribute food to the pot-luck buffet.
Women’s Health Symposium: Rising to the Challenges of Being a Woman is designed to help community healthcare providers learn more about issues affecting Asian American women living in New York City. Topics will include suicide; cultural and communication differences within generations and youth discrimination. There will also be lively discussions focusing on pregnancy when diabetes, hepatitis B or HIV/AIDS is involved; health issues such as menopause, osteoporosis and lupus as well as a panel on what Asians may expect from President Obama’s health care reform plan.

This event celebrates Asian Heritage through the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office by honoring community leaders for their contributions in humanitarian service, leadership, business, and education. It brings together civic organizations and community partners to recognize excellence and strengthen Asian American community engagement.
