Mr. Yineng Ye, a Theatre major, will explore the role of women and highlight gender issues as an international phenomenon in today’s patriarchal societies, through a production of David Henry Hwang’s play, Golden Child, in Spring 2019 at City College. The cast will include both Asian and non-Asian actors.
The CUNY AAFF helps to promote the artistic visual talents and stimulate communication among CUNY students who are separated by the different campuses, and serve as a central location to display their creative works.
The CUNY Ethics and Morality Essay Contest is funded by an endowment gift of $100,000 to the City University of New York by Dr. K. York Chynn and his wife Noelle Chynn. This annual award is intended to promote and stimulate thinking by college students at CUNY about the topic of ethics, morality, and virtuous behavior in their lives.
Sujani K. Reddy is the 2017-2018 Thomas Tam Visiting Professor of Asian American Studies at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Dr. Reddy’s work focuses on histories of U.S. imperialism, immigration, and South Asian diaspora, as well as mass criminalization, immigrant rights, transnational feminism, and struggles for liberation. She is the author of Nursing & Empire: Gendered Labor and Migration from India to the United States (UNC Press, 2015) and co-editor of The Sun Never Sets: South Asian Migrants in an Age of U.S. Power (NYU Press, 2013). Both books are also published in South Asia by Orient BlackSwan.
Mr. Peter Lee is an undergraduate student majoring in Anthropology at Brooklyn College/CUNY. As part of a year-long anthropological research project starting in Fall 2017, Mr. Lee will curate and complete an ethnographic photo collection that documents the practice of Chinese seniors who travel to long distances to casinos to redeem vouchers as a way of living. The project will critically examine the larger issues of poverty, aging, and the well-being within the Chinese community.
