The Asian American / Asian Research Institute’s Localized History Project, and The Asian American Education Project, are building New York City’s K-12 Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Studies curriculum! New York City teachers, community members, and youth are invited for an interactive evening of storytelling, community building, and curriculum development on the localized history of Queens’ Asian American community.
 
In this event, learn Queens-based history from NYC youth researchers, featuring the following projects:
  • Filipino Nurses Activism in Woodside
  • Indo-Caribbean Music + Culture in Richmond Hill
  • South Asian Labor History in Jackson Heights

The event will include primary resource packets and support/work time for educators to weave these stories into their classrooms. Food, coffee, and bubble tea provided!

The NYC AAPI Studies K-12 Project is funded by the New York City Council’s Educational Equity Action Plan. It is a joint initiative between The Asian American Education Project and AAARI’s Localized History Project. Our mission is to provide free professional development and resources to support the teaching of AAPI history in New York City K-12 schools.
