The Asian American Mentorship Providing Opportunities to Women for Empowerment and Resilience (AAMPOWER) at CUNY invites you to join us at our next workshop on “Synergy Circle: A Forum for Knowledge Exchange.” This event will feature an incredible group of speakers and thought leaders sharing their insights and expertise on a variety of topics:
- Mentoring – Importance of Being a Mentee and Mentor
Kiyoka Koizumi, Brooklyn College/CUNYAfter so many decades in academia, I realized I could have used more mentorship, both as a mentee and a mentor. I now seek out being both, and being rewarded for it.
- BRAG! Introduction to Self-Promotion
Reem Jaafar, LaGuardia Community College/CUNYSelf-promotion is often weaponized against women, yet it is a crucial skill for advancing careers and being recognized for one’s contributions. However, many women are usually uncomfortable with the concept of “bragging” due to cultural norms that discourage them from highlighting their accomplishments. Peggy Klaus, in her book, BRAG! The Art of Tooting Your Own Horn without Blowing It, addresses these concerns and provides strategies for authentic and effective self-promotion.
- Enhancing Happiness & Wellbeing – What Science Says Works
Qin Li, Queensborough Community College/CUNYIn my presentation, I will review the current literature on Positive Psychology, clarifying key insights on well-being and happiness. Additionally, I will present on evidence-based strategies designed to enhance our sense of well-being and happiness.
- Stress Management Tips from One Tired Chinese Mom
Catherine Ma, Kingsborough Community College/CUNYLife is inherently stressful and can negatively affect our mental and physical health. I share some ways I have found helpful in managing my stress, including acupuncture, exercise, yoga, petting my pug, bowling, and walking.
- Hey, ChatGPT, Let’s Create Something Awesome!
Sandie Han, Medgar Evers College/CUNYIn this presentation, I will share how I use ChatGPT to streamline tasks such as drafting letters, developing programs, or preparing engaging presentations. By leveraging its capabilities, I’ve been able to articulate more clearly, boost productivity, and infuse creativity into my work.
