Job Op – Finance Specialist (Brooklyn College/CUNY)

Two vacancies open for this position. Reporting to the Director of Accounting at Brooklyn College, the Finance Specialist will provide support for the
Brooklyn College Non-Tax Levy (NTL) Entities while remaining compliance with CUNY guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Typical duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review and prepare financial information for NTL Entities for monthly and quarterly review.
  • Review accounting processes, standards and other requirements and make appropriate recommendations for improvement.
  • Reconcile CUNY investment pool activity monthly and report activity on a quarterly basis to college departments.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for college accounts utilizing cash management module in CUNYfirst and Financial Edge NXT system.
  • Assist in the submission of required investment or banking documents to appropriate manager or financial institution.
  • Assist with preparation of computation and facilitation of payments for Brooklyn College Foundation (BCF) Charitable Gift Annuities.
  • Assist with review and posting cash receipts to the general ledger and address any errors that are associated with the daily cash receipts batches.
  • Attend Audit & Finance Committee meetings and Investment Committee meetings. Prepare draft minutes.
  • Maintain template for BCF transactions to facilitate mid-year and year-end uploads to CUNYFirst.
  • Assist with preparation of Audited Financial Statements, Annual form 990 Return for Organizations Exempt from Income Tax, and CHAR 500 NYS Annual Filing for Exempt Organizations.
  • Support annual audit preparation, preparing audit schedules, audit samples and other documents requested by auditors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Business or closely related field
  • Minimum of two years related experience
  • Experience with CUNYFirst and Financial Edge/NXT system a plus
  • Ability to meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks and or projects
  • Project coordination skills and a strong attention to detail

Salary and Benefits
$50,000 – $60,000. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Health insurance benefits, including dental and vision. Pension Benefits after 1 year.

This is a non-tax funded position, not City University of New York.
