Call for Papers – Asian American Voices in the Built Environment

Global Asias Conference, April 21-22, 2023, UC Irvine

Inherit within the change of American vernacular architecture is a history of racial dominance and resistance. For a very long time, the spatial and architectural experiences of Asian Americans were often associated with assimilation, as architecture did not always seem the most desirable expression of ethnicity. This panel for the Global Asias Conference seeks to center the silenced Asian American voices in the built environment. We look forward to presentations that address Asian American experiences through the practices of Asian American architects and designers as well as the communities’ lived experiences in their everyday spaces to shed new light on Asian American history.
