Friday, April 16, 2021 | 5:30PM to 7PM

Asian women have become part of the American workforce over the last few decades. Some of these women have gone on to achieve spectacular professional success in fields as varied as politics and business. While Asian women in America share certain cultural commonalities, they are not a monolith. They are a complex, unique, and distinctive presence in business organizations, representing various countries and generations. However, despite their decades-long participation in the workforce, there is a lack of awareness and published research about their experiences. In her new book, Asian Women in Corporate America: Emerging Research and Opportunities, Prof. Sambhavi discusses research related to Asian women in corporate workplaces in the U.S. and identifies avenues for further inquiry.

Asian Women in Corporate America aims at building an understanding of past and future careers of Asian women, and traces the history of Asian women’s presence in American corporate workplaces while framing it in the broader context of organizations and relating it to experiences of women and Asians. The author’s approach is interdisciplinary and comprehensive. The book draws on research in the areas of management, business organizations, women’s studies, sociology, and psychology. Chapters serve to illustrate different facets of work environments and focus attention on Asian women as a distinct group. Topics include leadership, diversity, networks, power, mentoring, careers, stereotypes, and identities. This book is a valuable reference tool for managers, executives, practitioners, researchers, and academicians. Students in fields such as business, management, leadership, and women’s studies will find it useful both as a resource and guide for future study.
