CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies
25 West 43rd Street, 18th Floor, New York, NY
Family obligations and demands follow women well before their professional careers take off. For many young women, familial commitments and cultural expectations rest on their shoulders amid the balancing act of juggling multiple extra-curricular responsibilities and the demands of school.
This conference will explore and allow women to share their experiences in navigating family, culture, and personal agency. We hope to engage in an open, candid discussion around the complex relationships we may have with our families and cultures, and the practices we can utilize to work through the challenges we currently face and might encounter. Within this conversation, this conference will also provide participants with direction in strategizing around available resources and opportunities as they set out and work towards their short-term and long-term goals.
The “Leading Women” conference series is intended to create a pipeline for young student leaders by providing a forum where diverse women leaders in civics, community services, education and business can come together to mentor and provide diverse CUNY women students with an opportunity to hear about career trajectories, challenges faced and overcome, and what leadership in the context of their gender, ethnic community, religious and other affinities means.
