Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Michael C. Liu (Ed.D, M.F.A., M.A.) is a scholar, actor, and educator based in New York City. Hist recent awards and fellowships include China at CUNY Initiative Fellowship, Emerging Scholar Award at the Twenty-third International Conference on Diversity in Organizations, Communities & Nations, City University of New York Black, Race & Ethnic Studies Curriculum Fellowship, New York City Artist Corps Grants from New York Foundation for the Arts and New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
As an actor, his portrayal of a Chinese dissent in Felicia King Anchuli's Golden Shield, produced by theTony-Award-winning Manhattan Theater Club, was praised as "one of the most emotionally wrenching performances of the year" by TheaterMania.
As an educator, he is a professor of Asian and Asian American Studies in the Department of Ethnic and Race Studies in Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York; he also gives lectures and guided tours to groups at The Met and the American Museum of Natural History.
As a scholar, his research focuses on arts activism, arts integration, cultural competency, and hate studies. His articles have been published on peer-reviewed journals such as Journal for Leadership and Instruction and Technology & Higher Education: Emerging Practice.
