Untold APIDA Stories: Hmong Breakdance Community in Fresno

Breakdancing in the Hmong communities of Fresno started as a result of community organizing, specifically through diasporic gathering events like Hmong New Year celebrations. As the Hmong immigrant population grew in Fresno by the 1990s, community organizers established resources and gathering spaces. As community centers opened throughout Fresno, Hmong breakdance crews became more prominent as they gained access to resources for Hip Hop events and breakdance battles.
