Saving America’s Chinatowns: Philadelphia

Join us for a discussion about the threats facing Chinatowns all across America, with a special focus on Philadelphia on Thursday, November 2nd, from 5 to 6 p.m. The conversation will go over how historically Chinatowns have been a targeted space and then move into specifics of how the development of a new 76ers arena threatens the livelihoods of many in Philadelphia’s Chinatown, as well as what can be done about it.

  • Yilin Zhang is a communications strategist and health care professional.
  • Kaia Chau (Bryn Mawr College ‘24) and Taryn Flaherty (University of Pennsylvania ‘25) are the founders of Students for the Preservation of Chinatown (SPOC).
  • Lisa Mao is the director, writer and co-producer of A Tale of Three Chinatowns. 
  • Deborah Wei helped found Asian Americans United in 1985 to organize low-income and working class Asian American
