Hundreds of online fundraising platforms collect donations for nonprofits every day — often without the nonprofit’s knowledge or consent. Hidden fees, inaccurate organizational information, withheld funds, and aggressive SEO tactics are eroding donor trust and cutting into the resources nonprofits depend on.
In response, the National Council of Nonprofits and 52 state and regional associations representing nearly 40,000 nonprofits, have published principles for ethical online fundraising platforms.
