Disinformation, deception and democracy: An urgent call to communicators

Oct 8 at 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

The playbook goes back to Plato’s Noble Lie, in 375 B.C. But while Plato justified government myth-making as a benefit to society, this year’s election playbook is anything but. The false narratives, repeatedly amplified on social media and believed by half the US population, can cause catastrophic consequences for the entire world.

In an era of distorted reality, can Communicators do anything to debunk the flow of disinformation? Can we realistically bring back the truth? Yes, at least to some degree, say the experts.

In this critical session, two experts on political propaganda will discuss how Communicators can identify and help dispel disinformation. They will also discuss how politicians historically used falsehoods to start wars, overthrow governments and, yes, to win elections.
