AAPI Media: Resilience and Rebirth
May 29 at 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
In May 1924, the U.S. passed the Johnson-Reed Act, which banned all immigration to the U.S. from Asia. As we commemorate this dark chapter in U.S. history, Asian American communities face xenophobic policies and inflammatory rhetoric similar to the pre-Johnson-Reed era. This event will feature Asian American news media leaders serving communities that have been targeted by xenophobic violence and policies in the past and face similar threats today: Denver’s Chinatown, New York City’s Little Syria, and Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo.
