Zhang Hongtu 张宏图

Zhang Hongtu 张宏图 was born in Gansu, China in 1943 into a Chinese Muslim family and attended the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts in Beijing in the 1960s, before and during the Cultural Revolution. Zhang moved to New York in 1982 where he has lived and worked as an independent artist for nearly four decades. His recent solo exhibitions include Zhang Hongtu, a major survey of his long creative career, at the Queens Museum in 2015-2016, which was accompanied by an exhibition catalog Zhang Hongtu: Expanding Visions of a Shrinking World (Queens Museum/Duke University Press, 2015). His work was also featured in the recent exhibition, Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World, at the Guggenheim Museum in 2017-2018.
