Asian American Studies Matters

In its 250-year existence, the United States has welcomed, nurtured, while also barred and deported Americans who hail from all parts of the world. The Asian American experience is at once unique and familiar. From the first migrants to these shores in the late 1500s, to the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882, to the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, to the banning and deporting of Asian migrants in the current day, this complex history is often omitted from US education. This online event brings together Asian Americanists in conversation about the place of AAPI studies curriculum in current K-12 and college classrooms. How can we encourage teachers and schools (K-12 to college) to become more receptive to teaching AAPI histories and experiences?
