Succession planning is one of the most overlooked yet critical challenges facing community and ethnic media today. In an era of shrinking local news coverage and growing news deserts, the lack of a clear plan for leadership transition can threaten the survival of entire news outlets. When publishers or newsroom leaders retire or pass away without a succession plan, communities risk losing vital sources of information altogether.
