Film – Bhuvan Shome

Mrinal Sen’s Bhuvan Shome was one of three breakout films from 1969 that defined the start of the Parallel Cinema movement, distinguished by a reflexive, satirical wit and a playful stylistic approach. In the film, Utpal Dutt stars as an officious bureaucrat working for the Indian Railroad in Bengal. A boredom-inspired bird hunting expedition in Gujarat brings him into contact with a villager named Gauri (Suhasini Malay), who turns out to be the wife of a man he’s just fired.
