Four Decades without Justice: BHOPAL’s Survivors of the Union Carbide Gas Disaster Speak

Sep 9 at 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

Bhopal Gas Disaster survivors visiting the U.S. from India will speak about their four decades long efforts for justice. The Bhopal gas disaster is one of the most tragic industrial accident causing catastrophic environmental and human harm. More than 40 tons of methyl isocyanate gas leaked from a pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, immediately killing at least 3,800 people and causing significant morbidity and premature death for many thousands more. It is one of the events that is cited as the catalyst for the push for corporate accountability to human rights. In addition to survivors, the panel includes Rebecca Bratspies and Arvind Rajagopal, Professor of Media Studies and Sociology at NYU, for a broader discussion on environmental justice and corporate acccountability.

The event is being hosted by our newly formed South Asian Law Students Association (SALSA) at the CUNY School of Law.
