Artist Zhen Guo will discuss her recent milestone exhibition at Baruch College’s Mishkin Gallery, Changing Cultures: Zhen Guo, A Retrospective. Curated by Dr. Gail Levin, the exhibition spans nearly sixty years of Zhen’s career—from her first embroidery piece created during the Chinese Cultural Revolution in 1966 to her recent large-scale papier-mâché breast sculptures and tufted tapestries. Zhen will share firsthand insights into her profound artistic journey from China to New York, exploring themes of immigrant identity, motherhood, environmental justice, and resistance to patriarchal violence.

Author Bio

Zhen Guo is a New York-based contemporary artist, curator, and activist whose career spans nearly six decades. Her formal education was interrupted at age twelve by the Chinese Cultural Revolution when she was assigned to work in a clothing factory—an experience that later deeply informed her textile and fabric works. She went on to study and teach at the Zhejiang Academy in Hangzhou before immigrating to the United States in 1986.

A prominent voice in contemporary feminist art, Guo is the founder and president of the Chinese Feminist Art Alliance in New York and has organized numerous exhibitions championing feminist perspectives. Her work has been featured in several recent high-profile solo exhibitions, including Zhen Guo: Embracing Kali at the Ethan Cohen Gallery, NY (2026), Unfolding her Life at Bard College (2024), What is My Name at Connecticut College (2023), and Changing Cultures: Zhen Guo, A Retrospective at the Mishkin Gallery-Baruch College/CUNY (2026).
