Join pioneering LGBTQ+ activist Daniel C. Tsang for a special conversation reflecting on his 50 years of activism, including his groundbreaking 1975 article Gay Awareness in Bridge Magazine, one of the first to address LGBTQ+ issues in the Asian American community. Tsang will discuss the evolution of LGBTQ+ rights, his personal journey, and the ongoing challenges facing the community. Moderated by the Museum of Chinese in America’s Chief Curator Herb Tam, the event will conclude with a Q&A session for audience engagement.

Author Bio

Daniel C. Tsang is Librarian Emeritus at the University of California, Irvine, where he was a Social Sciences and Asian American Studies bibliographer and data librarian for 30 years, as well as a union activist on campus. With decades of experience in queer activism, academic labor organizing, police watch, and alternative media, he has been a prominent voice in progressive movements. Tsang was twice a Fulbright Research Scholar, in Hanoi and Hong Kong, where he was born and raised. His reportage, op-eds, and interviews have appeared in Hong Kong Free Press, South China Morning Post, Los Angeles Times, Critical Asian Studies, Far Eastern Economic Review, Michigan Free Press, OC Weekly, Fusion, Covert Action Quarterly, Asian Week, AMASS, CUNY FORUM, Gay Community News, and Bridge Magazine.
