This lecture will focus on the recent development of Chinese American literature teaching and research in China, by presenting both the data found online and the speaker’s own perspective of teaching and research of it. Prof. Yingguo Xu will first give an overview of Chinese American literature classes taught in universities, as well as Masters theses and PhD dissertations found in some major databases for academic publication in China, in order to show the growth of the studies in the past decade. Secondly, Prof. Xu will introduce the series of Chinese American literature studies she initiated in 2003, providing attendees an idea about who are the Chinese American writers who have received the most attention in China and the perspectives Chinese scholars approach them from. Finally, based on her own teaching and research experiences, Prof. Xu will talk about her own observations about issues concerned in class and in literary criticism of Chinese American literature in China.
