SUMMARY:The Affordability Crisis Facing NYC's Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:New York’s affordability crisis has finally begun to get the attention it deserves. But few New Yorkers feel the strain more acutely than the city’s 1.3 million older adults. Over the past decade\, the number of older adults living in poverty has surged by 41 percent across the five boroughs\, and today 18.4 percent of New Yorkers age 65+ live below the poverty line. Even more alarming\, nearly one in five older adults report no income from Social Security at all—and many others are working longer out of necessity\, struggling to keep up with rising costs and insufficient retirement savings. \nThis forum will explore how city efforts to tackle New York’s affordability crisis can ensure that older adults’ unique cost-of-living challenges are front and center. Panelists will discuss the bold policy actions and investments needed to strengthen financial security\, stabilize incomes\, expand access to vital supports\, and reverse the alarming rise in older adult poverty.

As a member of the first graduating class of women of Yale College and one of the first Asian American women to graduate from Harvard Law School\, she broke barriers on Wall Street and paved the way for women and minorities throughout her 40+ year law career. DESCRIPTION:Following the event we’ll be regrouping at a bar in Greenpoint for a post screening reception. Details will be shared with those who RSVP with their ticket purchase. There is no additional cost to attend\, let us know if you’d like to come! \nCinema Kinare is a community run project without any institutional support. All funds from tickets will go solely towards covering venue costs. Thank you for your support! \nOur Program \nOur program is threaded through with explorations of masculinity – in its unraveling and its construction\, in its excesses and limitations – as found in friendship\, desire and resistance. \nWe’ll be screening films by four South Asian filmmakers; three of whom are based in and around NYC and will be joining us for a post screening discussion about their craft. \nHeadlining our program is Alexander Farah’s award winning short\, One Day This Kid (2024). The film follows Hamed\, an Afghan Canadian boy\, as he comes into adulthood under the weight of his father’s expectations – confronting fear\, desire and shame\, in search of a self unknown. One Day This Kid premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival\, and won the Grand Jury Prize at South by Southwest 2025 amongst a host of other accolades.

DESCRIPTION:The Ping Chong Archival Symposium will be a full day gathering exploring the archive and artistic legacy of the visionary artist and Pink Fang Artistic Director Emertius\, Ping Chong. \nThis free\, public event on December 6th marks a pivotal collaboration between Pink Fang and Hunter College Theatre Department\, a semester-long partnership that includes a co-taught course called Multicultural Theatre Performance: Engaging Community Voices and Stories\, class visits\, an Artist Lunch for students with Ping Chong\, a theater workshop available to the entire Hunter College community\, and public screenings of Ping Chong’s archival works followed by talk-backs. \nThe day-long symposium event will bring together artists\, scholars\, students\, and the public for conversation\, panels\, artistic activations\,  and a celebratory reception\, illuminating the impact\, evolution and future of Chong’s groundbreaking interdisciplinary practice that has transformed the landscape of performance in America and beyond.
