SUMMARY:LECTURE| Every Fourteen Minutes: Architecture\, Urbanization\, and Memory Politics in Postwar North Korea by Dr. Cheehyung Harrison Kim
DESCRIPTION:The birth of North Korea after the Korean War—centered on state authority and work culture—was distinctly represented by architecture. Architecture was divided into two interconnected types: monumental structures symbolizing the utopian vision of the state and vernacular structures instrumental to the regime of production. Architecture was also part of North Korea’s urbanization efforts through efficiency\, prefabrication\, and speed. “One apartment every fourteen minutes” was the motto born on the construction sites of Pyongyang. The memory of this postwar urbanization\, which involved an immense level of international cooperation\, began to fade in the 1970s. Yet this great built environment still stands today. Dr. Cheehyung Harrison Kim will discuss this postwar boom and drive toward construction in this lecture.

SUMMARY:New York Chinese Cultural Center HOME Project 2026 Presents "Between Homes"
DESCRIPTION:HOME Project 2026: Between Homes is a curated performance series featuring Chinese and Chinese diasporic artists working across dance\, theater\, and multidisciplinary performance. \nCentered on the notion of “between-ness\,” this year’s program explores home not as a fixed place\, but as a shifting condition shaped by migration\, memory\, cultural inheritance\, and contemporary life. The participating artists offer distinct perspectives on identity\, belonging\, and the experience of navigating between cultures\, places\, traditions\, and contemporary realities. \nThe program brings together both professional artists and university-based student groups\, reflecting a range of generations\, artistic practices\, and perspectives within the Chinese and Chinese diasporic community.

SUMMARY:King of the Yees: Lauren Yee\, Francis Jue and David Henry Hwang
DESCRIPTION:Join us in an intimate conversation with three important theatermakers on the New York premiere of Lauren Yee’s play\, King of the Yees\, at Signature Theatre (running from October 6 – November 15). Playwright and screenwriter Lauren Yee\, actor Francis Jue and playwright David Henry Hwang talk about sharing the notion of family in their work\, their poignant\, moving stories of their fathers\, and the art of portraying them on the stage. An “epic joyride across cultural\, national and familial borders”\, King of the Yees tells the story of Lauren’s father Larry Yee (played by Francis Jue)\, a driving force in San Francisco Chinatown. Francis Jue has also played David Henry Hwang’s father in his Tony-winning play\, Yellowface. Lauren\, Francis\, and David discuss Asian American families\, lineages and storytelling in the theater as part of this special conversation at Asia Society.
