SUMMARY:LEIMAY Constellation Series presents: Spider's Thread
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a performance produced and created by the artist Yusuke Mori as part of the LEIMAY Constellation Series\, co-presented with LEIMAY within WEAVE. \nSpider’s Thread is a performance\, led by dancers Yusuke Mori and Alaisha Sharma\, based on Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s well-known short story. A simple tale based on Buddhist teachings\, in which a convict is given a slim passageway from eternal damnation. In this dance-theater piece\, the story unfolds through an interwoven tapestry of narration\, movement and music.

SUMMARY:We Anchor Ourselves in History: South Asian diasporic movements of study and struggle
DESCRIPTION:Throughout history\, young people have had an irrepressible desire to study histories of struggle—or the efforts that came before them to fight for a more liberatory and just world. What is it that young people gain when they anchor themselves in truthful histories\, histories that are often not taught\, or are erased\, by the state? What do such exercises give them\, and how does it shape their sense of self\, identity\, and belonging? How does it craft their political consciousness?  This workshop presents initial findings from a dissertation that begins with present day New York City youth\, and investigates their injury\, analysis\, and conclusions about South Asian Diasporic organizing in three moments of imperial boomerang: the 1970s and 80s United Kingdom\, the 1990s and early 2000s United States\, and the present US and UK. This workshop will serve as a dialogue between participants and the presenter\, and will include a brief presentation particularly focused on the method of youth participatory historiography. \nSpeaker: Shreya Sunderram (The City University of New York ) \nZoom Link (2pm GMT/9am EST): https://cam-ac-uk.zoom.us/j/81942540288?pwd=ahTOy2wbORI6TfXGDp6bNuRsiSwIJm.1 \n

SUMMARY:Reframing Suicide as a Shared Social Responsibility in Korea
DESCRIPTION:The Korea Society is pleased to announce that the ninth annual Sherman Family Korea Emerging Scholar Lecture Awardee is Dr. Peter Na\, assistant professor of psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine.  In his lecture\, Reframing Suicide as a Shared Social Responsibility in Korea\, he casts suicide not as an individual failure or “extreme choice (극단적 선택)\,” but as a systemic and cultural crisis requiring a coordinated national response. Drawing on his experience as a psychiatrist\, public health researcher\, and mental health advocate\, Dr. Na examines the scale and societal costs of suicide in Korea and analyzes key structural drivers such as academic and workplace pressures\, poverty and isolation among older adults\, and the pervasive stigma surrounding mental illness and treatment.

SUMMARY:Screening - A FREE DAUGHTER OF FREE KYRGYZSTAN
DESCRIPTION:Zere Asylbek was 19 when she released a music video demanding respect for women in the largely conservative Kyrgyzstan. It was intentionally provocative\, and Asylbek achieved what she set out to do: jolting the society into paying attention to the evils of the country’s deeply patriarchal and misogynist culture. Six years on\, the death threats keep coming as Asylbek’s ever-steely resolve to usher in change only grows stronger. – Bedatri D. Choudhury \nThe first and second screenings will be followed by a Q&A with director Leigh Iacobucci and film protagonist Zere Asylbek.

SUMMARY:NY Comedy Festival Presents Margaret Cho: Choligarchy
DESCRIPTION:My new show CHOLIGARCHY is bringing me back to my roots as a political comedian. I’m so frustrated with the state of the union and I know the only weapon I have is humor. We are being taken over by the richest people in the world but the one thing they cannot afford is jokes at their expense. I want to fight fascism with everything I have. This will be my most blistering and brutally honest show yet! Let’s tear down racism\, homophobia and sexism with all that we have. We have to fight for what we have now\, because if we wait any longer\, it might be too late to save ourselves. \nComedian. Actor. Musician. Advocate. Entrepreneur. Five-time Grammy and Emmy nominee. SUMMARY:LGBTQ Immigration: Contemporary Struggles Globally and in New York
DESCRIPTION:The LGBTQ Policy Center is pleased to present an urgent discussion—featuring leading policymakers and advocates—about the impact of recent immigration policies on global LGBTQ migration\, with a spotlight on New York. \nFor decades\, the United States has recognized the threat\, and reality\, of state violence against LGBTQ people as a legitimate reason to grant asylum. However\, recent policy changes at the federal level have called into question the country’s commitment to protecting the human rights of LGBTQ immigrants. For example\, earlier this year\, the Trump administration deported Andry Hernandez Romero\, a gay makeup artist who came to the United States seeking asylum\, to a maximum security prison in El Salvador. Recent increases in ICE presence at courthouses and on the streets has created an environment of fear that discourages LGBTQ immigrants from accessing the social services they need to survive. Human Rights Watch has documented worsening discrimination\, harassment\, and violence against LGBTQ people both at home and abroad.

SUMMARY:Fair Pricing Act 101 Community Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The Fair Pricing Act (S705/A2140) is proposed state legislation designed to bring transparency and equity to hospital pricing. \nIts core mission: \n\n\nStandardize the cost of routine medical procedures. \n\n\nRequire hospitals to publicly justify any additional charges. \n\n\nWhy does this matter? Disparate and predatory pricing is a significant barrier to necessary\, affordable care\, directly leading to delayed diagnoses and poorer long-term health outcomes in our communities. For many—especially groups like AAPI New Yorkers—cost is the main hurdle to seeking routine preventative care. No family should have to choose between medical bills and basic needs like rent or groceries. \nJoin us to discuss how the Fair Pricing Act is a crucial step toward building an equitable and affordable healthcare landscape for all.

SUMMARY:Learning Without Borders: Immigrants Transforming Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a lively discussion on how immigrants are reshaping the landscape of higher education!\n\n\n\nImmigrants have long faced structural challenges when accessing and thriving within educational systems and academic spaces. These include linguistic barriers\, precarious legal status\, limited access to financial aid\, cultural exclusion\, and the emotional toll of navigating institutions not designed for their realities. \nUnder the current political climate\, many of these challenges have intensified due to shifts in immigration policies\, tightening of visa regulations\, and increasing social and economic precarity for immigrant communities. \nIn this conversation\, we will discuss both the historic and structural dimensions of these barriers and the new challenges emerging today. Bringing together scholars\, students\, and advocates\, we will explore how immigrant communities continue to transform academic spaces\, and what possibilities for solidarity\, policy change\, and institutional transformation might shape the future of higher education.

SUMMARY:At the Edge of Empire: A Family’s Reckoning with China
DESCRIPTION:The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) cordially invites you to a special conversation with Edward Wong\, diplomatic correspondent for The New York Times and author of At the Edge of Empire: A Family’s Reckoning with China. The son of Chinese immigrants in Washington\, D.C.\, Wong grew up among family secrets\, especially those surrounding his father Yook Kearn Wong\, who served in Mao’s People’s Liberation Army before making a perilous escape to Hong Kong in 1962. As Beijing bureau chief\, Wong retraced elements of that past while examining the forces behind a resurgent China: intensified nationalism under President Xi Jinping\, ethnic conflict in Xinjiang and Tibet\, and pro-democracy movements in Hong Kong. \nThis program will also highlight the history of southern Chinese migration to the United States\, especially from Taishan County in Guangdong\, and the enduring transnational ties among Chinese migrants. By connecting geopolitics with family memory and community networks\, the talk will show how cross-Pacific migration continues to shape Chinese American life today.
